Our services include public and in-house training courses. Consultancy, both general and specialist, practical guidance, auditing, inspections, risk assessments, safe systems of work, method statement preparation, policy etc.

Paul Wharton
Barbara Drake

Paul Wharton and Barbara Drake head up our consultancy service within the risk and safety management role.

Paul has a background in engineering and training management working extensively in the heavy engineering, electronics, civil and military defence, plant, pre-press, communications, retail, FMCG and food processing industries. This has involved dealing at all levels of business from shop floor to the board, with official bodies and external providers both contractor and consultant. Paul has held a number of senior appointments within business including membership of trade bodies and has a pragmatic no frills approach to practical safety management.

Barbara Drake, our principle HR consultant, is professionally qualified (Chartered MCIPD) with over 25 years’ experience in Human Resources, supporting both Corporate and SMEs clients. Barbara has well developed communication and commercial skills, is committed to the development of sound and viable employment management systems that will benefit both the organisation and its employees. Barbara’s experience covers a broad range of sectors including FMCG, manufacturing, engineering, health care, leisure, service, advertising and the arts. As soon as you employ just one member of staff you enter the minefield of employment legislation. Barbara can guide you through this in a proactive and pragmatic way ensuring that your practices, policies and procedures are both legally compliant and business effective.

Barbara is often consulted by employers, insurers and legal professionals to provide counsel and act as a management coach.

Michael Coverdale MBE

Michael Coverdale MBE heads up our Expert Witness Division handling and preparing case documentation for our clients and insurers. Michael began his career within the automotive industry. Following sucessful completion of his apprenticeship Michael joined the Police Force retiring with 33 years service, he also served 21 years in the Royal Military Police T.A. achieving Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM). Michael is an expert in statement taking, having specialist training in traffic, crime and industrial injury matters. Michael spent the last 8 years of service in the Criminal Justice Unit preparing case files and obtaining statements, making plans and photographs for Court. Michael is also road safety, logistics and supply chain management and transport qualified as well as acting as a military and police law specialist. Michael has recently been teaching European driving road safety competencies and the Highway Code of these countries to improve business drivers skills .

Darren Edwards

Darren Edwards, a full member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, heads up our Dangerous Goods and Supply Chain Consultancy Services, he has extensive experience and first hand knowledge of supply chain management, from green-field warehouse design and construction to implementation of inventory management systems.

Darren began his career within the Ministry of Defence in the Logistics and Communications field, during which time he was heavily involved in the carriage and movement of dangerous goods throughout the UK and wider world. Darren continues to specialise in the management of dangerous goods, working across the commercial arena. Clients include blue chip chemical distributors, heavy engineering and manufacturing, haulage and distribution groups and construction companies.

A qualified Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor since 1998, he has developed a wealth of experience, not only in the successful health and safety management of dangerous goods, but with best practice within the chemical industry as a whole. Darren has personally contributed to the best practice and legal obligations of many companies.

As an International CPC holder, this has allowed Darren to ensure many small transport operators to develop and practice with professionalism within the complex ‘operator licensing’ criteria.

Ken Iley

Ken Iley heads up our Plant and Machinery division consulting and training for our construction, facilities and utilities clients and insurers.

Ken began his career within the Merchant Navy as an Engineering Officer. Following completion of his service Ken worked extensively within the Middle and Far East managing numerous construction projects with the building of hospitals being a particular specialism. Ken has a comprehensive level of experience and first hand knowledge of construction, from green-field design and construction to implementation of full renovation and change of use projects, including all aspects of site plant and machinery.

Ken continues to specialise in the management of construction related projects and the training of plant and equipment operation, in particular the NVQs for plant safety and operation. A qualified Plant and Site Safety Advisor since the mid 80s, Ken has developed a wealth of experience, not only in the successful health and safety management and assessment of plant and equipment safety, but with best practice within the construction industry as a whole.

As an NVQ Assessor, this has allowed Ken to ensure many construction operators, including the self-employed ‘plant for hire’, to develop and practice with professionalism within the modern site operations criteria.

Andy Leather

Andy Leather has spent 22 years working within one of the UK’s largest national family businesses with a UK wide multi-site general management role including project management, health & safety, client liaison & staff training.

Andy is trained in all aspects of fire safety, he now focuses on fire risk assessment & fire safety training working with many well known national companies, he has an excellent working knowledge of fire safety equipment & the fire related legislative requirements of the regulatory reform (fire safety) order 2005.

Andy has a jargon free style & can communicate at all levels to ensure that a clear consistent message is delivered.
